Our Commitment to Our Members
The Advisory Board proceeds in the belief that organizations in certain sectors—health care, education, and government among them—have a charter above commerce, but preserving this higher calling requires an unyielding insistence on improvement. Our mission is to surface and secure economies of intellect on behalf of member organizations—discerning “True North,” communicating these insights and best practices with clarity, and providing innovative services such that our members can set compass and elevate performance accordingly.
Our membership-based model, in which members actively participate in our research and analysis, leadership programs, and implementation services, is central to our strategy. We organize our research programs and service lines across the following four channels: our membership programs, the Academies, H*Works and Business Intelligence.
Membership Programs
The Advisory Board offers 15 distinct membership programs focused on identifying best-demonstrated management practices, critiquing widely followed but ineffective practices, analyzing emerging trends within the health care industry, and supporting institutions’ efforts to adopt best practices to improve their own performance. The Advisory Board organizes its staff and member work around two practice areas—strategy and operations programs and clinical programs. Our strategy and operations programs serve the hospital’s executive suite: CEOs, CFOs, board members, senior-most marketing and planning executives, and major product line managers, and focus on broad industry trends and business issues. Our clinical programs serve executives and general managers operating key divisions and departments within health care companies, concentrating on issues such as process improvement, cost reduction, productivity, and quality improvement.
Academies

The Advisory Board Academies represent a shared endeavor of the Advisory Board and nation’s leading medical centers—joined in the purpose of improving quality and efficiency in American health care by strengthening its leadership ranks. The heart of the Academies is a shared national curriculum focused on advanced leadership, business, and operations skills and the application of those skills in the hospital and health system setting.
H*Works

H*Works' purpose is to pick up where Advisory Board research leaves off—hands-on assistance in implementing best practices. H*Works collaborates actively with hospitals and health systems to implement new technology, management strategies, and clinical practices in client organizations. To that end, H*Works isolates uncommon, exceptional health care practices -- tested in real-world application, established as demonstrably superior and deserving of broad adoption—and installs them with deftness and speed, working from start to finish with each partner institution, allowing that institution to fully own the change process.
Business Intelligence
Advisory Board research indicates that within specific terrains, what often separates the top one to three percent of performers from the top quartile—in other words, the truly great from the very good—is access to better, more timely, and more accurate information. To help organizations gain this kind of visibility into their performance, the Advisory Board has developed innovative Web-based business intelligence tools which provide members with real-time decision support, robust data collection, advanced analytical capabilities, and quantitative research.
