James Green

Mr. Green has 15 years of health care consulting experience. He leverages his expertise in the revenue cycle management terrain with academic, teaching, and community hospitals to assist them in reducing bad debt, denials, and A/R days, and increasing cash collections and total revenues. Mr. Green also has experience with integrated delivery network development, supply chain management, and clinical guideline implementation. Prior to joining the Advisory Board, Mr. Green worked as a consultant with CSC Health Care Group (formerly APM Management Consultants).

Ms. Latimer serves as an expert on ambulatory surgery centers, profitable surgical volume growth, perioperative efficiency, and procedural supply cost reduction. Since 1999, Ms. Latimer has worked with more than 200 hospitals in improving and growing their service lines. Prior to joining the Advisory Board, Ms. Latimer was a manager with Deloitte Consulting, specializing in health care operations and turnarounds.

Jeff Queen, MBA

As one of the founders of our H*Works program, Mr. Queen helped define its role in using evidence-based research to assist hospitals and health systems in achieving more prosperous growth, streamlined operations, and enhanced working environments. Mr. Queen has developed the H*Works approach to emergency department and inpatient throughput, surgery access and efficiency, case management, staff productivity, and nurse recruitment and retention. To date, he has provided management oversight to more than 200 initiatives across the country. Prior to joining the Advisory Board, Mr. Queen worked for the Tiber Group, a Chicago-based health care consulting firm. He previously served in a management capacity with the financial services unit of Textron, Inc.

Fred Neis, R.N.

Mr. Neis works closely with hospitals and health systems on initiatives that enhance clinical quality, expedite patient throughput, and improve revenue capture. Mr. Neis has more than 18 years of health care experience; before joining H*Works, Mr. Neis served as Director of the Emergency Department at Carolinas Medical Center, which supported more than 110,000 visits annually. As ED Director he provided clinical oversight into both the construction of a pediatric ED and the redesign of operational processes to improve efficiency and patient satisfaction. Mr. Neis has also worked on grant-funded policy and practice projects for health care providers. He served on the U.S. Institute of Medicine’s Prehospital EMS Subcommittee for the project titled: The Future of Emergency Care in the United States Health System.

Gary Smalto, MD, MBA

Dr. Smalto leverages his expertise to help hospitals improve perioperative surgery suite efficiency and address anesthesiology resource deployment challenges. Prior to joining the firm, Dr. Smalto was an instructor at George Washington University where he managed academic medical caseloads, instructed residents and medical students, and assisted in planning for an ambulatory surgical center. He has ten years of private medical practice experience and served as director of pediatric anesthesiology at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Tampa Children’s Hospital.

Aamir Rehman, MD

Dr. Rehman has worked with H*Works, the Advisory Board Academies, and the Advisory Board syndicated research divisions. He has advised senior physician and executive leaders at member hospitals on strategies and best practices for improving clinical quality and optimizing hospital operations. Prior to joining the Advisory Board, Dr. Rehman worked with Mercer Management Consulting and Corporate Decisions Inc., advising clients on post-merger integration, acquisition strategies, and business redesign. Dr. Rehman also has an adjunct faculty appointment at Johns Hopkins University.

Carolyn Ewing, MBA

Ms. Ewing is dedicated to supporting partner hospitals and health systems in achieving best practice-driven performance improvement in management and clinical operations. Her areas of focus include emergency department throughput, inpatient capacity management, surgery efficiency, and surgery growth. Prior to joining the Advisory Board, Ms. Ewing was a senior consultant with Deloitte Consulting’s health care practice.

Jessica Dasher, MPH

Ms. Dasher has led engagements spanning the terrains of improving nurse recruitment and retention, inpatient and outpatient clinical operations, revenue cycle processes, nursing productivity, and service excellence. Prior to joining the Advisory Board, Ms. Dasher served as a senior consultant with The Katz Consulting Group, Inc., a health care consulting firm, and was formerly a consultant with Ernst & Young health care consulting practice. She was also a financial analyst for the Philadelphia Department of Public Health.
